Cyclosporiasis in Buncombe County

From our doctor,

"Cyclospora is a (usually) mild "stomach bug" though for some can lead to hospitalization. We learn about it in medical school but it is not common. Right now our country is having an outbreak and we have 4 confirmed cases of it in Buncombe county.” No need to panic; just be aware and follow these steps from the Buncombe County Health & Human Services.”

- Wash all produce well under running water; gently scrub firm items.
- Remove outer leaves of leafy greens and discard bruised areas.
- Cook produce to significantly reduce the risk of illness.
- Hand hygiene: wash hands for at least 20 seconds before eating/preparing food and after bathroom use.
